I have a 2007 Larson sport with a 3.0 Penta drive. Boat has no engine hrs. Dealer said 48 gallons of gas should equate 20 hrs. I have already run 41 gallons through it and it doesn't seem like the engine has run for 20 hrs. I haven't logged any time on the engine, so I don't know exactly. Does anyone know if what the dealer told me is correct? I have very good reason not to trust the dealer, if you go to THEHULLTRUTH.com and check out the thread titled Advanced Marine Port Orange FL Horror Story, you can read about it for yourself. Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Install an hour meter. Then start from zero. Then keep a log book on how many hours you put on per fill up. You will (after many tanks full) get an idea of how much fuel you use per hour average.

Most 3.0's get around 5-6 MPG at best cruise speed (around 25 MPH). So you're burning around 5 gallons/hour cruising around. If all you've used is 41 gallons you probably have a max of about 8 hours on the engine (unless it's spent a lot of time idling ....). In reality your fuel usage is probably MORE than 5 gallons/hour (therefore less than 8 hours engine time) if you've been pulling skiers, tubing, or going slower or faster than best cruise speed.

As Don said, put a cheap hour meter on it then you'll know.
