I have a '95 Force, 70 hp, with the external tilt and trim pump. The fill cap has locked itself up tight. I cannot get it to budge.

It is made of a relatively soft plastic, hex shaped, with slot for screwdriver.

The points of the hex started to strip off, and the slot seems to be on the point of ripping apart when I torque on it with one hand. Vice-grips can't seem to get a grip on it.

Any suggestions as to how I can remove it?

Or why it siezed up?

I have always just turned it in by hand, then give it 1/12th turn or less, with a small screwdriver.

Thanks in advance.

Hey roscoe.....if I remember right, aren't these plugs the same size as the gear case drain plug? If so, dig the plastic piece of junk out and replace with a fill plug used in lower units. Not real sure about this so maybe one of the other guys can put some more light on it.

I think I will hunt around for a metal plug, once I get the old one out and can measure it. Its about 3/4" wide and very coarse threaded. The gear case plugs are only 1/2 the size I need for this orphan/castaway. Thanks.
