Guys I am sorry if this seems a little pre-school but I want to make sure I do this right.
The way I understand how to refill a drive is to warm it up and put the drive in the down position and remove the drain screw and then remove the vent screw and drain completely.
This is the part I want to clarify......To refill you should pump through the drain hole until the lube comes out the vent hole. put the vent screw back on. Then put the drain screw back on. After this is done you should remove the vent screw again to allow any air that might be trapped to escape. ?
Is this the correct way to do this? I want to ensure that I do not cause any damage by overlooking anything as I prepare for Spring Boating

That much is Right........

Then Replace the Top Screw(the Vent),...( If you had a Gen I, you'd be done here, but you have a Gen II, So,..) Continue pumping till the Reservoir(Inside the boat) is to the proper level.....

Then remove the fill pump,+ replace the Fill/ Drain Screw......

You're Done........

I usually put the vent screw in and continue pumping in the drain fitting till gear lube starts filling the reservoir inside (after being cleaned). Then I just take a bottle of gear lube and finish filling the reservoir.
There WILL be an air bubble in the top of the drive that will not come out until the drive has been operatied for a bit. This is normal. The level will drop a little. Top it off again and it should remain on the full mark.

Wait a minute here....
Maybe I don't have a gen II. I do not have a resevoir in the boat. But I was told that the drive is a Gen II. Is that possible?
The drive number is OD 678234

Yes, you have a Gen II, the first year they didn't have reservoirs on all of them.

So my initial thought was correct as stated in my first post?
 Fill to the vent hole and put the vent screw back in then put the drain plug back in. There is a dipstick on top of drive that allows you to check the level.
All must be done with the drive in down position right?

Re: Filling gear lube on Alpha I Gen II

I will be spring boatin by the end of April. :D However, I would like to take the shrink wrap off of her soon and fit my new bimini top and boat cover. I purchased her late in the season last year so I would still like to pull the drive and lube and inspect the U-joints, bellows and gimbal.
How difficult is it to replace the impeller? I am new to this but I have the link to the manual and it does not appear to be that difficult or need special tools.
