Filling holes below the water line

I have a bunch of small holes below the waterline. They are from transducers, speed sensors....

I realize that the best way to repair is to weld them but short of that what is the best accepted way? Will some 5200 around the hole then a rivet seal it up sufficiently?

I was thinking about a piece of wood that has been covered with West System running the bottom of the chine then 5200 around the holes then use the existing holes and screw in from the inside into the wood. This should both seal the holes and give me somewhere to attache transducers, live well pumps... without going through the hull.

How big of holes are we talking ?

are you talking about an old style " threw hull " transducer with about a 3/4 in hole ?

No I'm talking about holes for screws from transom mount traducers.

Hey Bill, I ran SS bolts and some 4200 on mine. You can check it out on my thread. Just click on my Islander signature there - round about post #1112.

Have fun!:D

When I bought the boat all the nay Sayers told me I would be sorry because of popped rivets. So I bought a box of SS sheet metal screws as a just in case. I had one pop up in Georgian Bay Ontario on a SCUBA diving trip and used (black magic) dive suit neoprene cement to seal the threads. That fix lasted to my major overhaul. I have change transducers and sealed the holes with the SS sheet metal screws and a sealant

If they are just small screw holes -- J B Weld will work for you. On the smaller holes just fill with JB Weld, On larger holes put some JB in the hole then a little around a stainless screw and seat it.

I've sealed a few using 3M 5200 coated on aluminum rivets. Keeps the water out.:D

Georgian Bay is a heckuva a place by the way. I'd love to get up in that neck of the woods again.:)
