Heading out to Black lake with my son for the next 5 days to do a little fishin and a little relaxin. Its about time, been so busy workin on the house it seems like its been forever since I wet a line. Hoping to get into some nice northrens, walleye and whatever else we can manage to get to bite. The lake holds some nice musky,, so maybe, just maybe I'll land a big ole gator!!!!

Black Lake This lake is FULL of fish. Flahthead, I wish I would have seen this post sooner, I would have rode up to meet you.I only live about an hour and a quarter away and have only fished it a couple of times. Let us know how the fishing was.

Black Lake was a blast. If I told ya the number of fish we caught you would think I was lying, lets just say it was nonstop, good quality fish too. Largemouth, smallmouth, northerns, pickerel, and a few giant crappie. The weather was great, the company good. A nice stress free time<br /><br />Crab, Black lake is just south of the St. Lawrence river in upstate New York, beautiful country around there. I would recommend a trip there if ya get a chance.<br /><br />OMC that would have been great to spend a day on the water with ya. I have only fished it a couple times also but found some real honey holes. I'll be back hopefully this year one more time, if not I'll be back next spring. I'll give ya a shout.<br /><br />

Glad to hear you had a good time in upstate NY (we need all the help we can get ) but it would sure help if you would smile. . I think we will try our luck on wednesday. Later in the summer the weeds just get too thick for me.

If your hittin Black lake Wednesday good luck, we did well on other side of the causeway off the main lake, fishin the weedbeds.<br /><br />Here ya go Crab this is where I stay. sunny side is where we stayed also, I like it at that end of the lake because all i have is a 16' flat bottom bass boat (fancied up jon boat) and if the wind comes up i can stay out of trouble.

Thanks Gonfishn, She was about 40. That is a mepps black fury bucktail. The black bladed bucktails seemed to be the ticket for the larger pike this trip. Tried to boat a muskey but no luck there. My son had a bass on and a very large fish tried to eat it as he reeled it in. I think it might have been a musky. <br /><br />OMC, I hear ya about the wind up there. It kicked up pretty good Sunday morn. It dont take much to churn up that shallow lake. We were all the way down to the river and the white caps about beat us to death in my 14'6" foot deep V on the way back. Could not imagine doing that in a jon.

Well, the whether forecast says windy on wednesday so we decided to go try it for awhile today. got a late start so never got to the lake and in the water until after 1 pm. The main lake was kind of choppy so we headed to the north end.scouted around a bit and it just kept getting windier by the minute. only seen about 5 boats on the lake. My sweety got 1 small northern and i got , well, i got tired of fighting the wind and waves so we headed back for the launch,well, the boat starter would not engage so i had to pull the cowl and rope start it while trying to keep my balance on that bobbing jon boat. when we went under the bridge and into the main lake the white caps were coming over the front of the boat. We putted along the shore line to the launch and loaded up (we were soaking wet by now)and headed home. total driving time almost 4 hours (168 miles) total fishing (in the boat time) 2 hours. next time i go up it will be for a few days. BLACK LAKE DOES NOT LIKE ME.

That blows OMC, sorry to hear it. I guess Murphys law got you this time. I am thinking maybe a late August early september run up there again. If your up for it maybe we can get out there and chase some Black lake fins.

Sounds good flahthead, let me know when your going, i'd like to at least run up and meet you.I don't know much about lake fishing so i am going to go up a few times this summer and see if i can figure it out. I mostly fish in a small local river for walleyes with crawlers. my arthritis limits the amount of casting i can do so my fishing time is limited. edit 4.43pm black lake weather today is hot,50+ mph winds, severe thunder storms with tornado warnings, glad i didn't go up today.
