Well, I'm selling my boat, we have come onto a time of financial "tightness" if that is a word, so it's on ebay and for sale locally.

For those of you that remember, I got that boat and immediately put $3,800 into it on major repairs.... just my luck that now it runs well I've gotta sell it for a loss (it my own rule of finance, buy high and sell low).

Hope it goes well (venting here, sorry for the whine).

The boat is worth $4,500 to me, but as anyone who is in need knows... you never get it's worth in a sale like this. I started the bidding at $2,900 and I will post $3,500 on the For Sale sign... what is everyone's opinion on the price?

Boat looks good, should get what you want out of it. Put a new steering wheel on it if you can afford it, even a cheap one, it will make things look much better, or at least paint that one.

I had to sell my last boat for finacial reasons, but it was for health reasons. Now I have another boat, better than the one that I had to sell. Life is always changing. Things will work out.

Around here an easy $4000, but that's around here.

Good luck to you, and hope you can get back on the water soon.

Know your feelings, sold my bike a few years back to feed my kids. It was a 1982 Virago with only 3500 miles on it. I still regret that and can't afford another 2 wheeler.

Do what you have to do for now, get it back later.

Re: Financial struggles, selling my boat...

I have bought high and sold low all of my life and I am done. Next boat (which you will have) vow to flip that around. I am trying to convince my family that our cars and the boat are going to be perpetually for sale. Period. I can't afford the toys I want unless they make me some money. Why not? I want my boys to learn this before they are on their own!!

Make this sale a start, not an end.

azff........

You might try listing it on "Craigs List." It's a free site and you can add up to 4 pictures with each post. You can post once a day, or if the wording is changed a little, more than once a day.

As far as buying a new stering wheel goes, you might go to Wally World or something like Kragen's or Auto Zone, and get one of those steering wheel covers you lace on, for $6 or $7. If you get a local bite, you can always say you will throw in a new steering wheel to consummate the deal.

All states are covered on the Craig's List site as well as many foreign country's, like Canada and Calipornia. :D There are listings for Phoenix and Tucson, by individual city names. www.craigslist.org

Good luck with the sale......... ...Bob in Calif...

Wow, thats a tough pill to swallow. Hope you do well on the auction. I think we've all been through the same scenario at one time or another and can sympathise. Good luck.

hmmmm... nice looking boat ... I'd pay 3500 for it.. but I'm suprised it's not a conficlt of interest to Iboats to post a sale of a boat... ecspecially if it's not on there site...

Wish I wasn't so far away, or I would know a potential home for it.

Instead of selling it how about:

1) Rent it.

2) Rent to Own.

3) Pay rides.

4) Use it for personal loan.

Sorry to hear hard times are knocking.

Best luck.

Mark

If you like the boat and its in good shape...then keep it. You will regret it later when its gone and all you have is a couple thousand $. I took a vow along time ago...not to sell my possesions for a quick buck....things like guns, tools, and toys.

Re: Financial struggles, selling my boat...

When it came to my choice of paying the electric bill or the boat payment, my boat went on ebay. I never regreted it. Thought I was cought up a year later and bought a cheaper boat....and sold it 3 months later. plain and simple, for a few more years, it won't fit in my budget and I don't mind.

I've sold a lot of my posessions to make ends meet. The posessions I won't sell unless 100% HAVE to are the tools that are NEEDED to save me from paying someone else to do something. The toys are the first to go in my mind.

once you cut all the corners there are to cut, there is only so much you can do.

I agree with this 100% specially if it's paid for already.... I've had some money troubles... but camper, tools, or anything that I worked hard to accomplish has never slipped away, I won't let it happen... the wife knows if and agrees with it. It's just one of those things... I'm sure theres alot of peeps in the world that look at our troubles and have a hard time wondering why we don't get rid of some of the "extra's" but those "extra's" make for a better family life... In a time like that, theres enough issues taking place, don't need to throw regrets on top of it.

Re: Financial struggles, selling my boat...

I was in your situation about 5 years ago. I thought I needed the money because my girlfriend had left, I was drawing unemployment, and I didn't think I could afford the rent. I sold my International Scout, a rig I had rebuilt from the ground up and had put a ton of work and cash into. I did okay on the sale, but ended up not needing the money. I ended up just sticking it in the bank, and regretting selling the Scout ever since.

Now, I will not sell anything if I need money, there is always another way. Work more hours, buy less unnecessary things. I hope you get the money you want out of the boat, but will that dollar amount really solve your problems? If it won't or if it is just delaying the inevitable, I would think of another solution. You can't go through life aqquiring assets and getting rid of them, you always waste more money that way than if you just come up with a financial solution that does not involve getting rid of posessions every six months.

Re: Financial struggles, selling my boat...

azf,- just some advice .If I where you I would start the auction very low and add a reserve instead of starting high to protect your investment.
I sell on ebay and have found starting low increases your end price because your involving more bidders and because they get "caught up in competition with other bidders they tend to bid higher then they normally would.

Re: Financial struggles, selling my boat...

Thanks all for your thoughts and input. Reddog, I never bid on auctions that have a reserve, I feel offended that the seller makes bidders fiddle around at a price less then he is willing to accept... I say post your minimum for everyone to see. Maybe I'm doing it the wrong way.
