I have a 1989 Evinrude 70hp outboard and am trying to find the 'real' owners manual. The guy I bought the motor from gave me a clymers manual and I don't like it. I found this one on ebay, but I just want to be sure it's the right one. Can anyone confirm that this is the 'real' one, the one I 'should' be using?

I appreciate your help! -Mark

Re: Find Right Manual

Thats a pretty sweet price for the manual, thats for sure....

"Seloc" makes a better manual and they sell them, coincidentally, on this site ..!.. they make "idiot" manuals with "lots of pictures" so dummies like me can stay interested...!!!

Looks like an OEM manual to me, so if it covers your motor then you've got what you want. Check out the link at the top of the iBoats page where it says Evinrude Manuals. You can compare to these.

That is a manual for the 1990 models (ES). It was published in 1989 at the beginning of the 1990 model year.

There is not much difference so it would probably work fine anyway.

BTW, The price is great.

I think you will find that a majority of people on this site will not approve of the Clymer's or Seloc manuals because they can be confusing (too many models lumped together) and have many errors.

I started with a Clymer's for my old engine and found this to be true. There were errors in tables displaying timing, part numbers, etc. Sometimes steps for conducting repairs do not apply to your model. The list goes on!

Stick with an OEM if you can.
