Fortunately it was a slow no wake bouy so very little speed was involved but I sure found that sucker. The light was burned out so I didnt see it until I was on top of it. Scared the hell outta me and made some pretty harsh noises but didnt seem to do any real harm beyond my pride, lol. Un-lit bouys freak me out just glad this was a foam and plastic lesson and not a steel and concrete one.

Ahhh... the joys of boating in the dark. I refuse to do it anymore.

Look at the bright side- you came right up on it in pitch dark.

I'd call that some pretty good navigatin' :)

A GPS is a good thing to have! When I plan on being out after dark, I make sure to have the trails option turned on so I just follow my same path back, plus or minus 10 feet or so.

Well, if you are familiar with the body of water, you should know approximately how far out the bouy/marker are. I usually shine the spotlight in front of the boat (down at the water) every 20-30 seconds just to look for debris and obstructions/non-lighted boats. Just be careful not to blind other vessels with the spotlight.
