does any one know of a company that makes larger dia props for the small gear case V4's

mine is a 1995 60 degree looper 115 johnson.

I cant find a prop larger than 14" that has a HUB that matches the small V4 gear case.

i had been looking at the props with the HUB kits thinking that any would fit once I have the Hub kit...but the old codger mechanic showed me the difference yesterday...the HUB outer dia is 1.5 times as big on the large V4-V6 gear case...

so even though the hub kit fits the HUB DONT!!!

the very end of the prop fit inside the ID of the lower unit!!!

I have enough room under my cavitation plate for a 16" dia prop!!!!

but with the 13 spline prop shaft and gear case...14 is the largest so far i have seen.

Id like to find a 14-15" X16 prop!!!!! in aluminum..

or a four blade aluminum in 14-15" X 15 prop

Re: finding a larger dia prop

There are a couple things you can do to run a V6 prop on a V4 gearcase but it'll have to be an over hub exhaust prop. The thru hub props in a diameter larger than 14" will be made for the 4 3/4" diameter gearcase, not the 4 1/4" V4 style case. Especially in an aluminum prop.

What exactually do you need more diameter to do?

Re: finding a larger dia prop

Can one larger than 14 fit on it???
On my 74 85HP the 14 is the biggest that will fit, then the down side is that it gives more torque steer that my 13 does.

I have a J/E Alum 3 blade, 14x17 cupped prop. I bought it new, NOS i think. I have ran it 2 times and its not the one that i like.
If you would like it PM me and we can work something out.

Re: finding a larger dia prop

well there are soooooooo many more props available for the larger gear case...

especially the ones that use HUB kits..

I have room for 16 " under thw cav plate...

it is a 115 HP!!!! so i figure it is enough HP to trun a bigger prop.

well i have some torque steer myself now...

another option is the four blade... and again..there are more option in the larger dia!!!

I want aluminum, and I want more RPMS than my 14X17 three blade is giving me...(5300)

I went and tried a 3 blade Stainless steel prop in 13-3/4" X 15 and it turned 6200 rpms!! toooo fast

even if i went to aluminum in a 15 pitch i might...MIGHT be turning a little fast...

so I am thinking a 16 pitch in aluminum or a 15 pitch 4 blade!!!

not easy to find in the 13 spline fixed prop market

I dont think i want a bigger hub dragging me down over the size of the LU's housing!!!!

if a 16" prop will fit, why do they only make 13.25, 13.5 13.75 and 14" dia props.

seems like the larger dia will push more water!
