 bought a 6hp evinrude from a clown who proudly displayed recipts for a new water pump......too bad the idiot didnt know you cant run the motor on muffs because the pickup is in the exhaust skeg!!!!! result 1 outboard with no water circulation because the impeller had comlpletly melted down(as well as the plastic housing) and a failed fishing trip:mad: oh well 1 water pump kit later and a half hours work and its pumping fine and runs great:Djust gos to show you even having work done by a marine specialist cant save an idiot from themselves.......(still,I should have tested it in the drum at home before trying to take it fishing:rolleyes:so whos the real dummy!!)

Is there discolourarion on the block, head or exhaust bypass? If so you may be advised to dig into your motor to investigate. Let's keep our fingers crossed that the motor didn't seize. If not, at least run a tank of 24:1 after replacing the entire impeller & pump. After that tank of 24:1 follow up with a compression test. The 6 is a fully jewelled motor with roller bearings and is a 'jewel' of a motor. Good luck!

Ouch, ya you should have at least tested it at your place before taking it out as you never know. Well at least it was just the pump and sounds like its a good motor now. Reciepts are nice and all, but like you said it doesn`t mean it was installed correctly or even installed at all!
