Happy New Year to everyone! I have a 1983 120 mercruiser in a Larson Citation I’m restoring. The motor is in need of a rear main seal. I’m wondering what website everyone is using that is awesome to work with and helpful in ordering the rear main seal as well as oil pain gasket. Thanks!

To find Merc genuine part number, which you can use as a search parameter in our shop, I use Merc's won website. You just 'drill down' to the engine sub assembly you're looking for. Use the part number you find to search in iboat's shop. You'll need your engine serial number (as you would for any website or shop looking for Merc parts)...

This is one of the FEW areas that you can use automotive parts on a marine engine, your 120HP engine is the same thing as a 68' ChevyII 153CI engine. Rock auto, $20 for all the gaskets and seals you need. You'll need the timing cover set also.

The timing cover needs to be installed with an alignment tool, to center the front crank seal over the crank, so it doesn't leak. I used a roll of electrical tape, with enough tape stripped off that it would fit snug inside the seal. No leaks in 10+- years....

Long before Mercruiser/omc/volvo bought the GM 153, GM dealers and auto parts houses have had parts

The rear main seal is the same for the 153 4 banger as it is for the 196/240/250 6 bangers. Available at any automotive parts store. The 152 first arrived in the 1962 Chevy ii

You can get the oil pan gasket at the same time

Be sure to replace the bushing in the block for the lower distributor shaft just above the oil pump.
