Finding serial #? (Mercury 115)

I was given a Merc. 115 ... How do I find the serial #? (I am Trying to figure out the year) I am told it may be a late 80's model. I must be blind... looked everywhere !<br />Thanks !

Kieth, that serial number should be on a Mercury aluminum plate located on the transom bracket. Good Luck ......BushCat

Thanks guys.... it was right under my nose... turns out the ID plate was painted over black. I have an 84'!!
