finding serial\model number without transom bracket

looking for help on finding out what year my johnson 25 hp seahorse is i have no transom bracket therefore do not have serial or model number i read on one thread that the coin sized tab on cylinder head might help that number is c8171748 how would i cross refrence that number thanx

thats a serial #, can't cross reference, but a dealer can.
