we purchased our first boat back in the mid '60s .... for 10 years or so we owned 3 .... every one (new and preowned) was purchased from a dealership and were rigged to where we could drive out of their parking lot and drive directly to a lake .... I guess the phrase "ignorance is bliss" would pretty well sum up much of my boating history because up until recently I never even considered questioning how a boat was rigged .... we purchased our current boat back in '04 and it seems to do OK .... that said, I have no clue if it was setup so as to get the most out of it .... the only folks I can think of to ask are the ones at the dealership where it was purchased .... I know a good number of folks who own boats and they are pretty much in the same boat (pardon the pun ) that I am .... they buy a boat, use it, if they like it they keep it, if they don't they move on .... the question is, if you couldn't do so yourself, how would you go about finding a person who you could have evaluate your boat so as to determine if it is properly rigged for performance and economy

For starters what kind of boat and engine are you talking about. If it's an outboard you can adjust engine height, not so with an i/o. Another big part of the performance equation is the prop, to determine if you've a proper prop for your rig you need to know how many rpms your engine is turning at WOT with a light to average load and you need to know the WOT rpm range of your engine (you want to be near the top of that range).

Report back with some details and maybe someone with a similar boat can offer some hints.

the boat is an '04 Sea Pro saltwater 180DC with an '03 or '04 Johnson Ocean Pro 90 hp outboard .... our son has the boat and it won't be back at our place for a few weeks so I can't get any tach readings .... I can try to take some pictures of the motor as the boat is underway .... frankly, when it comes to rigging a boat, working on an outboard, or making evaluations of such, I have no experience on which to draw
