finishing plywood

I have a Zodiac RIB. There are two things I want to do with this boat.

One is build a storage locker under the front seat. The seat has a open steel frame and the locker will attach to this. I'll likely use ~1/4" ply to build some sort of box shape. Since the seat doesn't lift up, I'll put a hatch opening in the side of the box.

The other thing I want to do is build a locker in the bow for the anchor and odds and ends. The boat has a fiberglass hull which is raised on the sides. There is a raised bulkhead that goes across the boat making a triangular space at the front of the boat. I basically need a triangular horizontal piece and a vertical piece at the back cut to match the deck profile to cover this area. Probably use ~1/2 ply with a hatch cut into it (it needs to be strong enough to step on).

The building part is not difficult, my question is what is the best way to seal and finish the wood? The rest of the hull, console, etc. are white fiberglass.

I don't have easy access to paint spraying equipment so the best thing is some finish that can be rolled, brushed, or sprayed from a can.

Thanks for your advice.

Re: finishing plywood

If it were me, I would use marine grade ply coated with epoxy resin. You could add pigment to match the color, or just paint it after it dries.

Re: finishing plywood

My understanding is that "starboard" is difficult to assemble. It must be mechanically fastened and there are issues with it expanding and contracting due to temperature (through holes have to be oversize to allow movement).

I might have misunderstood..I thought you want hatches..yes you have to mechanically fasten starboard.

Got some pics on what your doing ?
