Fire Suppression Alarm, but no fire....

I have a 2001 Wellcraft Martinique with the built in fire suppression. Yesterday while taking company from out of town (perfect timing) on a short cruise, the alarm sounded and the engines shut down.

After quite a bit of searching I found the dashboard alarm was making the noise and the red light was lit. There was no fire and the engines were at normal temperature. In order to get home I switched it to overide and then then engines would run.

This morning, I went back out to the boat to check. As soon as I turn power on, the alarm goes off. I checked the 'bottle' and the pressure gauge is in the green.

Does anyone know what working parts could go bad on the fire suppression system?

Thanks!

Nope,.... But I'd suspect there's a heat sensor that's shorted out....

They are also a gas fume detector. If it senses a gas odor that will set off an alarm.

Sounds like it is not the actual suppression system but the DETECTION system that has the fault. heat sensor? fume sensor? Smoke sensor? Wiring short?

Re: Fire Suppression Alarm, but no fire....

I found the problem....

Apparently in the rough seas that day a cable tie broke that held the wire harness in place. The only thing left holding that wire harness up were the 2 wires that run to the fire bottle. One of the wires pulled out of its connector.

I connected the wires back up and fastened the wire harness.

Now it works like a champ.
Thanks for your help!
