For those of you that think the coast on the left is spoiled , because nobody here knows how to winterize a boat.(WINTER?). I'm sitting home w/ 270degree view of the nastiest fire I've ever seen, w/ one road out. If it rained today the mudslides will eventually put it out, just in time for an earhquake. Boy we got it so good over here. Born and raised in Ohio, I'm gonna raise my kids and get the heck out of here. The only thing I'll miss is the Pacific fly zone, for the big puddlers

Re: Fire

Watch long enough and you might see some flaming around here! ;)

Man, I do not envy those firefighters - working in the heat, trying to get some type of control over the raging flames - not fun. My hat is off to them.

Re: Fire

The in-laws had to evacuate the other night, now they are living out of a hotel wondering if they still have a house or not. They have not been let back in yet. Being a California native, I don't miss any of the California stuff. Up here in glorious North Idaho, the only thing I have to worry about is, well, nothing actually..... :D :D :D

Re: Fire

A major cause of extreamity of these fires we have in Calipornia is caused by the environazi's adjenda. This is no joke! We have magnificent forest's, surrounded by large populations of humans.

When trees die in the forest's here, we are not allowed to go in and remove the dead or fallen trees for any reason. There are tens of thousands of cords of wood that could and would have been used for firewood and other wood uses. A major problem in the death's of pine trees in Calipornia are boring beetles. These beetles actually bore in to the tree and deprive the trees of fluids that make them grow and keep them alive.

Our main property has been the victim of these beetles. Beetles have killed over 100 trees on my property alone. A product called "Lindane" has been very effective in killing the Japanese boring beetles and other types of beetles. But again, the environazi's have succeeded in having Lindane banned by the Calif. EPA, thus causing hundered's of thousands, if not millions of pine trees to die here.

If you are flying south out of San Francisco, you might fly over the Monterey County area and are routed over the costal range of mountains, you are likely to see a brown area, covering thousands of acres. Again, the brown area are dead pine trees, mainly caused by the boring beetles.

This was mentioned on a live feed out of Southern California last night, by a news reporter on tv. This is the first time I have ever heard a truthful report of the major cause of pine tree death out here.

There are hundredes of other forested areas areas here that are in the same shape and are disasters waiting to happen. I live only a few miles from the coastal range of mountains and worked in that area for a number of years. There is fuel 5 and 6 feet deep in much of that area, greatly enhanced by dead trees everywhere. And yes Virgina, there are thousands of homes among these forests that are on private property.

These poeple are told to make a fire brakes around their homes, but it usually does no good, as the overgrown areas are owned by by the state and enviro groups who refuse to have the dead trees and tinder removed.

The area a couple miles from my home has not burned in about 100 years or more, so you can realize how devistating a fire in this forest area could and someday will be, especailly with a couple of million people on the SF Peninsula.

Then to top it all off, we haven't had any measuerable rain in over 6 months and it is still in the mid 90's here!

"Pray for us my brothers and sisters"

:( ...Bob In Calif... :(

Re: Fire

Bob in Calif.'s post just stregthens the reasons why the minority bleeding heart librals need to be eliminated !

Or even better yet, let's send the bill for all this damage, to those who sponsered not removing the underbrush!

And send them the bill for banning "Lindane" to prevent the beetles!

Or even better yet, lets guide those fires towards those back-stabbing librals homes!

When the fires start licking at their front door, I'll bet they will be the first to say " Someone has to do something about this underbrush, that I (the libral)won't allow them to clear "!!

Here is a classic example of libraltism comming back and biting them in the butt!

But I'll bet you that they will find some way to blame George Bush, that's almost a gaurentee!!

It should be Federal Law , that if you sponsor a bill, that passes legislation, and it back-fires, that those who proposed and sponsor it, personally be held responsible for it !

Kenny

Re: Fire

I grew up in Ventura County, where one of the fires are. I hear the size of the ashes from the fire are like a quarter. Freeways closed and airports closed. Santa Ana winds blowing at 70+ mph make it worse( hot winds from the desert that come this time every year). I feel for my fellow Californians. I hope they contain the fires soon. Very scarey!
P.S. Bob, you are so right!

Re: Fire

Kenny, I got an idea, since you and I can't go out and help fight the fires for various reasons, lets send the environmental wackos to do it. Don't give them any training, though, other than to get as close to the fire as possible and keep water flowing till you are completely empty, then watch it a little bit before you retreat for another load. That should take care of 2 things, clean out the forest of the dead wood, and clean the "dead wood" from civilization. What do you think? Good idea?

Re: Fire

A little while ago on the Fox News Channel, Jerry Rivers, (Geraldo Rivera) gave short disertation on the problem of the vast numbers of pine trees killed by the (boring) beetle's in the Los Angeles area. He said the trees have been dead and are totally dried out. He continued by saying, the way these pine trees ignite so fast, is no different than you taking a couple year old Christmas tree and throwing it into a lit fireplace. The trees virtually "explode" into flames.

As I said earlier, you can thank the enviro groups, including the Open Space Groups, (big time) such as we have here in Calipornia, and especially on the SF Peninsula, of letting the "dead tree" problem get out of hand and now in LA, it has turned "Deadly." I hope they can live with that. It is the brain dead idiots, like members and suporters of these groups, who think they are they are the elites, but are if fact quite responsable for much of the damage and loss of life, thanks to their "D0-Gooder" thinking and their "Holier than thou" attitudes.

I wonder if any of them actually own a home, or are most of them on the "Section 8" housing program?

 ...Bob in Calif...

"400 miles north of HADES"

Re: Fire

I live in ventura co. The heart of one of the main fires. There has been three major fires here in southern ca. Ventura co. San Bernadino co and San Diego. The only one effected by the diseased pines is San Bernadino(the largest of the three and uncontrollable due to all the dead pines) Its really the only one with a population of pines. But the one thing all of them have in common is some A-hole started it. If I could only have five minutes w/ one of these guys..........God help em
