Reinstalled fuel tank and filled it with a fresh 50:1 mix. Put on earmuffs and started 'er up. Well , to start with, no pee. Removed lower unit and rechecked pump install. Found all ok. Pressureized water tube going up in engine with water, flowed good. Reinstalled lower unit, low and behold it worked, don't know why it didnt to start with. Guess I'm going to have to remove the carbs again and do a rebuild, guy from local shop told me to disassemble carbs and spray carb cleaner thru every open hole and it would be fine. But seems he wasn't right, now they leak fuel. When I had carbs apart, I noticed around the plugs there was some red stuff, some type of sealer I guess. I didn't put anything back on them. Was that possibly RTV sealant or what type would be recommended? He told me not to soak them, as it would turn them into a molten plie of metal. Would it be ok to soak the metal parts in carb dip? Seloc manual shows pics of parts in a soak basket. Also, I need info on where I can find correct brass parts (plugs, jets, ect.), seems someone in the past wallered out the slots. I also couldn't get one of the small ones out (probally needs drilled and extracted). I think the carbs are wmk-27 maybe, I'll have to check on that. Also my rectifier is shorted (have a new one on the way), and I ran it without the stator leads connected. Would that have anything to do with my Tach not working? Before I started it up, I fogged all the cylinders thru plug holes and whizzed her over, so cylinders wouldn't start dry. Is there a dial indicator setup that will screw into the plug hole that I could buy? Need to verify timing is set right. She seems a lil sluggish. But when I go back through the carbs, I'm gonna do the fuel pump also. All input is appreciated :)

Some point form notes..........

> Glad to hear you got the water flowing.

> Carbs drooling could be a sign of a worn needle/seat, or a float set to high.

> Red stuff was loctite sealer.

> New needle/seat and new gaskets you should be all set. Then just add the brass plugs/jets that are strippped out. Which plugs exactly? Pics?

> Yes, its ok to soak them provided you have them torn 100% down. Any rubber seals will be destroyed in the process, turning to mush. Typically spray carb cleaner and compressed air through the orifices is enough. If you're going to soak them, I'd recommend a full reapir kit and that you remove the welch plugs (look like freeze plugs) to be sure you can blow out all the trash, and hidden crevices.

> Not a Merc carb, but the principle is the same in this video:

TMD Video Chronicles Carb Rebuild

> Rectifier is required for the tach to function.

> Fuel pump is pretty straight forward.

> Yes, there is a dial indicator that can screw into the plug hole, but its not really required unless you dont know where TDC is on the flywheel.

Good luck.
