fired up, then died - for good!

Argh! Took the boat out to the lake today. It fired up (after some coaxing) just long enough to get from the ramp to the dock. The engine died (almost like it flooded), and I never could get it to crank back up. I think I gave it plenty of time to "un-flood", but after about 45 minutes, we gave up and went home.
It did fine less than 2 weeks ago - no issues whatsoever! What the crap?!
Taking it to a mechanic this week - will update this thread when I find out the issue.
BTW, it's a '93 Glastron SSV 195 Elite with a 4.3 Mercruiser.

This forum is all about fixing things yourself, not reporting what some shop decides to tell you.
Most of their explanations are a bunch of bs just to make you think you got your moneys worth.
Would you rather try to fix it yourself?

Sorry for posting in the wrong thread. Just thought I'd share my experience, and whatever solution/problem the mechanic finds.
I'd LOVE to be able to fix this myself, but am very mechanically challenged, so not much chance of that. I have looked for the engine serial number to provide more info, but can't find it anywhere.:( Yes, I've looked for the "plate" or "tag" above starter motor, but no dice...
Thanks for the reply!

Well, I did check to make sure it was getting fuel, by taking the cover off the carb and having someone look for gas squirting in while I pump the throttle. Unfortunately, that's about all I know how to check on a motor...:(
As for "which carb"? Sorry, I have no idea...
Thanks for the reply!

Well, the boat cranked right up when back at the house on ear muffs. Mechanic explained that since there is no "backpressure", it's easier for the motor to start when the boat is out of the water...
Anyway, got a tune up, and planning on taking it out to the lake tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. Wish me luck!
Btw, the motor's code is: 0D850955 and the lower unit's code is: 0F033851 Can anyone tell me anything about my motor/drive? Thanks!
