I have a 1987 4.3L OMC motor in my boat. It will not crank, it turns over but will not fire. After some checking I noticed there was no fire going through my coil to the distributor, it has electronic ignition. The coil appears to have an oily residue on the outside. Can anyone help me?

Re: firing troubles

Replace the ignition coil. The oil you see is from inside the ignition coil, it must have ruptured somewhere.

Re: firing troubles

He's right. The coil is bad. I just had the same problem this week. Which brings up a question. I have an 85 OMC V6, 3.8 not electronic. The black wire that is connected inside to the points/condensor post and runs to the coil - should it be attached to the negative or positive side of the coil?<br />Thankss
