Good morning iBoats!

Stumbled across this forum and seems to be very helpful and full of great advice..

So later on today I will be trading my 2008 Kawasaki STX15-f for a 1998 Larson Flyer Jet with the 4.3GS Volvo Penta. My ski has 51 hours and is in pretty great shape, the Larson I am picking up has a brand new motor with 4 hours and all newly upholstered interior. So I think this is a good trade for both parties.

Just a few questions I am hoping could get answered.

First, I can't find much info on the Flyer Jet but from what I do hear it is a real nice boat and pretty rare. Is the 4.3GS a good motor? Reliable? Anyone on here have one or have owned one?

Second, the gel coat/fiberglass is pretty sun faded and dull on the boat and am wondering what the best method to bring back that original shine would be? I seen a Meguiar's boat restoration kit with a wax, polish, and oxidation remover that seems to get good reviews, would this be a good kit to go with?

All input is greatly appreciated! Thank you

I haven't ever seen one of those, but I just googled it and they look like nice, sleek boats. What size is your Larson? One nice thing about a '98 is that Larson's after the mid-90s stopped using wood for stringers and bulkheads. Less stuff to rot! I'd bet a '98 still has a wooden transom core, so I'd look at that closely. (Especially around where the swim ladder attaches to the transom; that's where water got into the transom on my '97 and caused rot. The Jet Flyers look to use the same ladder and bolting scheme, so look carefully and make sure the holes are well sealed.)

Many threads on cleaning oxidation in this forum; do a quick search and you'll find hours of reading....

Congrats on the boat and welcome to iBoats!
