First Boat.. Would like recomendations

I have just purchased my first boat (Charity auction), a 1989 Sea Ray Laguna 20 Center Console. <br /><br />Originally there was a Mercury 175 with a 20" shaft on the boat, but I was told when I bought it, that the motor is DOA. Powerhead has been removed and broken-down into seperate parts. (2 boxes full)<br /><br />What I would like to know is if this is a good boat to do some off shore fishing in the Gulf and what is a reliable motor and size for it.<br /><br />Thanks for the help.

Go with at least a 200 Evinrude E-Tec (Saltwater series). The warranty is better than any competitor and no scheduled maintenance for 3 years. Let us know what you think.

It's a new engine, pcgood, and an excellent one.<br /><br />Another option is the Suzuki/Yamaha/Honda 200HP EFI 4 strokes.<br /><br />Good luck, and happy boating.
