Force 125 on a 1989 19ft Bayliner.

Bought this boat at end of last season. Previous owner took me out in it and it seemed to run fine. I am not a boat savy guy yet, working on that.

Took the boat out for the first time today. Started and ran fine for about 10 minutes. My brother (200 pounds), got on a tube and we did fine for 5 minutes or so, then all of a sudden the speed dropped off, but engine was still running, we slowed to a stand still, I push the throttle all the way forward, engine is running, but no forward thrust. I turn and look at engine and white spray is shooting out in two streams from the back of the engine. It looked like steam mixed with water. There was a hot smell, not smelled before this. I shut the engine off, and we wait a few minutes. Can't get it to start and we fortunately got towed back to the dock by another boater. Engine did start again, right before we put it on the trailer.

Ideas?

The motor turning and no forward motion is probably the prop.
The steam in the water is normal.

Thanks for the reply. Just looked at the prop and it is attached. How can I tell it is bad?

when you say "the engine is running" do you mean its running wide open (that would indicate loss of propulsion) or do you mean it idled down to an idle, but kept running?

I had the same thing happen with me as far as the engine went to idel. Mine would idle just fine, but it would not rev up. I ended up idleing back to the dock and after about 1.5 hours we got back.
Anyway the butterfy shaft in my carb broke. I never saw that happen before but I was able to get one from Sea Way Marine in Seattle.
Hope you get it fixed soon.

It happened pretty fast, but as I remember, we were cruising along, then the boat started to slow, but the engine was still running. I pushed the throttle forward, but no increased speed. I though I was out of gas, but the engine was still running. It smelled hot. I don't think the prop was spinning, but the engine was still running, and water was shooting out of the two holes harder than I've seen it spray out before.

Thanks for your help.
