'88 alpha 1- 350 first time in water in 11 years.new lower shift cable, grinds when going into reverse but seems to go into fwd fine, could it be a bad interupt switch? i noticed no stumble in the motor when shifting
the other problem i had was 200+ temps and im not sure how to read the symtoms witch are: hotter at lower rpm, manifolds that are cool enough to be touchable. i know the impeller is pumping (i have a section of clear pvc tubing going to the heat exchanger) thanks-Russ

Yep, interupt switch not working. do you have good water flow after the power steering cooler/heat exchanger?? they get old and rusty = clogged up.

Ayuh,....

The Interupt Switch only works coming Out of gear....

It sounds like your New cable still needs Adjusting.....

And,.. It sounds like the water isn't moving where it's gotta be,...
Follow it's path,+ Find the restriction....

It may be pumping some, but not enough. Doesn't sound to me like you changed it, and you better. It's probably about 12 or 13 years old and been sitting for 11 years without moving. Half the vanes aren't even working
REPLACE THE IMPELLER !!!!!
