I got an old boat for a steal last fall. I restored the whole thing. It has a Chrysler 35 on it. I rebuilt the fuel pump, carb and put a LU from a 45 on it, since the 35 was toast. I ran the motor for the first time (in a barrel) last week and WOW!!!!!!!! It runs like a brand new motor. I am so stoked. Thanks to ALL the guys who helped me through the winter!!

All I have left is to install the Teleflex steering and I'm done! (Still waiting for the steering....it's on order)

I'll throw up some pics of the whole project one of these days.

I hope your motor run as good in the water as in the barrel. BUT! Remember the load in the water vs barrel will be different. I would power test before leaving the trailer. I learned the hard way by driving 120 mi to fish after the motor ran good in the barrel. I fished but was not pleased with the performance of the motor in the lake. That one lesson taught me to test in the closest water w/o driving off the trailer before a trip if I thought I had issues. Good Luck In The Water!! jow

Yeah, that's a good tip! Are you suggesting a test near home first? Or is there a way to do a decent test in a barrel? Because, I did throw it in gear in the barrel, but obviously it throws a lot of water out that way, and I didn't want to risk running the impeller dry. Thanks, Wick!!!

Yes! A test near home first which will probably be less stressful if there are issues (at higher rpm, as a good burst of rpm w/o bogging/hesitating). Usually I if my 1970 35 HP Chrysler takes a good burst in the water on the trailer it will hold the WOT w/o backing down. Most of all the motor has never failed to let me fish even when I have noticed issues on the water. BUT! I start the motor at the start of every season in a barrel to check the idling and light burst of rpm.

My bad habit is, I have not left home to drive a distance w/o a quick bump of my starter w/o being in a barrel or etc. (since 1985 w/o a problem). I replaced my first impeller in 09 and it still had life to it. I usually burn 12 gallons of gas at the most per season (half trolling, half WOT). Good Luck! jow
