This is the first spring for my boat. Is there anything I need to do before boating and fishing? It's getting warmer and getting the bug to get out.
Anything I need to do before I start the motor?

Thanks
Don

Re: First Spring for my boat

need more info:
Type of boat (actually, motor) and what was done to it to winterize?

Status of fuel on board: age, treated, etc.

Has it already been checked over by a mechaninc or are you qualified?

Are you an experienced boater who has already taken and passed the boater safety course?

Are you asking just about the motor, or do you need to know how to rig it for its first use?

Assuming this is for lake use in Nebraska?

First and foremost, get some ears and start it in your driveway before heading out the first time, then you know you won't get stranded and if something is wrong then it is alot easier to fix.

This is of coarse assuming that you winterized and didn't leave untreated gas in the carb all winter, if so it could involve a bit more.

Was boating all last summer. So I'm pretty familiar with boating. Motor was winterized, gas is about six month old, full tank with stabilizer in it, (Non alcohol) gas. Merc 30 hp, and the dealer told me not to drain the gas out of the motor (fuel injected). The boat is aluminum.

5150abf said it..... start it on good muffs.

I would check and clean all the electrical connections, check the lights (usually the anchor light connection needs to be cleaned). Check all your safety equip fire extinguisher, pfd's and lines.

Check the trailer lights, tires and wheel bearings.

Sharpen the fish hooks, oil the reels :D
