First time replacing Coils, Condensers and Points - No Continuity

So I've used Frank's timing fixture that I purchased before to set points and it works awesome. On this motor though it was missing everything on one side of the ignition so I decided to replace both side coils, condensers and points and have never done that before. Everything is in place now and I've removed the wires from the condenser and the coil to set the points. When I put the fixture on and ground the one wire from my meter to the armature plate, I put the other on the screw that ordinarily holds the condenser wire and the coil wire to the points. It does not have continuity when the points are closed. When they open it should be an open circuit but when they are closed I should have continuity. Am I missing something.

Is there something I did wrong with installing all of these components. They are the standard Sierra Tuneup kit for a 1969 6hp Johnson.
I'm sure I'm missing something but when the points are closed, there should be continuity, correct ?

Push the points in a bit and see if they look closed but actually are not.You are correct.I like to screw down one test lead in the contact screw for setting timing.

Likely just dirty, even though they are new. A quick polish, and then cleaning with acetone and paper, then blow off with compressed air, should rectify it.

Thank you both for your thoughts. bspeth, that did it. If apply pressure to close the gap, it gives me a reading.
Now the question is, how do I get it to apply enough pressure to close the points without doing it manually or does it not not need to be completely closed ?

I will also try cleaning them like you suggested High Trim and see if it makes a difference as well.
Much appreciated.

They do need to close completely.Do you have the spring on the right side of the tab?Maybe on the outside instead of the inside?

Cleaning them probably is all it needs. Those things develop an invisible layer of non-conductive whatever during storage. Or maybe it is something applied during manufacture. Mashing on it with your finger breaks through the thin contamination. Whatever it is, it most likely needs to be cleaned off.

So I got back to it last night, cleaned up the points and it was much better. Never figured that would be necessary on brand new points but now I know. Put the flywheel back on and I couldn't move the throttle handle. Took it back apart, put Frank's Coil ring on it and it was super tight. Did what I could to get the coils in as tightly as I could and once the ring fit (even tightly) the throttle handle moved again. Took it out and first try, there was strong spark from both cylinders. I pulled several times and she fired right up. Now to get it to idle down. Thanks so much for your help !!

Bravo Putzaroni1, Bravo. Now you too can offer others instructions on how to install points, condensers and coils on here. We all had to start some where and now you know as well. Persistence is the key. Knowledge follows.
