I have a 18 ft crestliner that i am going to paint, but I have no equipment to paint with. I would like to paint it by hand if at all possible. (brush on) The boat is painted brown (sprayed)now and in some spots it is flaked off a bit.. What is the best process to paint this boat...by the way it is an aluminum v-hull. Do i need to take it all the way back to aluminum or can I scuff everywhere and use some type of primer?

If you know what I need I would appreciate any info you guys have. And wht kind of primer and paint..

Thanks alot
Bryan

Re: First time to paint boat....need info

If brushing/rolling, I would use something like Interlux Brightside or Petit easypoxy following the guidelines from he mfgr about priner and final sanding grit. These are supposed to give an excellent finish using the roll/tip method. For good painting process info, go to the projects board here at IBoats and do a search for posts by CrabBait. He wrote up a great post on painting this way.

As for the old paint, if ity is flaking I would be leery of putting new paint over it. I would probably sand it down until comfortab;le that you have a good base for the new paint to stick to, be it to scuff up the existing paint or remove teh existing.
