Mercruiser Alpha 1 "R" / 5.7L 350
Well, using some detailed instructions I found on this site and Outboards.com I replaced my water pump and housing. Just have a few questions to make sure its done right and isnt going to cause trouble in the spring.
How tight are the water pump bolts supposed to be? I got them snug but didn' want to wrentch on them
When you re-join the two halves of the sterndrive there is a shift indicator that resembles a rudder hanging out the top half. When I put them together I turned the portion in the lower housing all the way clockwise untill it stops then mated the two together. So if you manually turn the prop shaft clockwise it spins but if you try to turn it counterclockwise the "rudder" points straight foward(bow) and it locks. Sound ringht?
Lastly you are not supposed to use any seal or gasket between the two halves right? Aside from the quad seal that goes over the small oil passage?
If there is anything else to check please let me know
Thank You - Logan
