I don't know if anyone else has a Humminbird Fishfinder 535 or not, but I have a lot of problema with it. I have never seen a fish arc on it at all. I can turn fish ID back on and it spits fish icons out, but it never shows arcs when its not on.

I posted this on another board and someone gave me this link to help me with my problem.

My new question: The article says that you should not have your display update settings set to an extremely fast setting, what does everyone else use in terms of how fast their graphs update.

Re: Fish arcs

I have a Humminbird and it shows the arches well. I go to the manual mode and turn up the sensitivity level until I start to see clutter. Then dial it down just a touch. Like all of the finders, It takes some fiddling to get it to work depending on the water depth and clarity. Zoom helps if your in deep water looking for the big ones way down. There are some tutorials on eagles site and others...Trial and Error will get you there. I never trust the fish symbols....

I was sent this file from an iboater a couple of years ago. You may find some interesting information concerning the use of your fish finder. It is zipped. I can open it with microsoft works or either word pad or note pad will make it readable as well.

Re: Fish arcs

You just have to use the heck out of your unit read everything you can about it I would take mine in real clear water and see what things looked like in the unit. The fish id will show any thing it see`s as a fish symbol. When you see a real big bait ball it will look like a cloud and anything under neith it will be fish. To get arches you will have to be at the perfect speed and make sure your transducer is on level but do not worry just use your unit a lot and you will understand what it is telling you. We where catching catfish one time and they quit biting and my wife was complaining that we should move I looked at the unit and something moved off the bottom so I looked at the poles and hers was bent way down I told her after she reeled this one in we could move. Do not worry about the arches just make sure the transducer is level when you are moving on the water and learn what you are seeing on your unit. Remember we are not pro`s we are not on the water 300 days out of the year so have fun and enjoy your time on the water and now you will understand why people like us spend tons of money on things we said we never would.

Re: Fish arcs

Fish arches should be seen when you pass over a fish at trolling speed (eg 4 knots).
You can easily test if the unit is working by throwing a baited line over the side next to the transducer. You should be able to track the sinker/bait to the bottom. If not, it means the transducer is not level or there is another problem. Fish symbols are a COMPLETE WASTE OF TIME. Don't use them. If you don't get arches but you are getting data showing bottom structure and activity above the bottom, this is very useful information. I must admit I am very happy with my Lowrance X135 and I use an Eagle Cuda in my small tinny which shows arches at times but not as clearly as the Lowrance.
