fish finders and forward looking sonar.
Can a fish finder be used to do the same job as forward looking sonar, by changing the possition / mounting angle of the transponder, why I ask this is here in SOUTH AFRICA our dam levels are fairly low because of drought, this increases the chance of hittig submurged logs etc.while boating near or close to the shore. WHAT IF I mounted the transponder on a rotatable pipe/tube that can be rotated to look around under the boat ??? I suppose I could make up a indicator scale showing thepossition of the transponder in relationship to the boat,eg starboard, port, ahead and astern.I do realize that this will only work at lower speeds, but with the low dam levels at the moment only a fool would be navagating at high speed near the shore line, a prosporous new year to you all @ iboats.com and to all the fellows on the forum,Kind regards William Wright.
