Hey fellow fisherman. I bought a hummingbird 777c2 fishfinder for my bow. The thing had great detail. the only question I have is the fish are showing up as solid lines accross the screen instead of arches. Everything else shows up as advertized. The baitfish are in clumps structure is structure and weeds stick out like a sore thumb. Any advice as to how I can remedy this would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Jason

You didn't say if you were in motion, trolling, or nearly stationary. The reason fish show up as arches when in motion is that when a fish first enters the transducers "cone" it's maybe 30 feet away (in a straight line) from the transducer. At that point the fish may be directly underneath the bow of your boat. Then as you keep moving the fish may be 26 feet from the transducer when the stern passes over. Then as you motor away from the fish the straight line distance to it again increases until it's outside of the "cone". Therefore, as the fishfinder display scrolls that fish will show up as an arch.

If you're stationary (or nearly so) a fish that's not moving will be a constant distance away from your transducer, showing up as a straight horizontal line on the display. If the fish happens to be coming shallow it'll be seen as a more or less straight line coming up to the right on the display.

Clear as mud?

Rodrunner,
How do you like the 777c2? I talked with you earlier about what sonar to purchase. I`ll soon be getting X510c back from Lowrance for the second time they don`t have a fix for it other than trying different versions of software. I bought a $500 boomerang. I`m about sure I`ll soon be replacing if for a Humminbird of some sort. The 777 is the first graph I looked at before going with the x510c. I had an excellent x75 and the holes in my boat for Lowrance products so I stayed with Lowrance. I wish I bought the 777c2. How about them new birds?

It shows fish the same wether im trolling or not. I may just need to speed up my display screen Wont know for sure till I take her out again.

Whofan. I love my new finder. Put my transsducer on my trolling motor and mounted the finder on the bow of my boat. It has great detail. I'm still learning the ropes. But as far as I can tell it shows fish when there are fish, its easy to tell wether the bottom is hard or soft. Shows weedy bottoms really well in a blue green color and once in a while you will see a little line of red. I assume its a big fish sittn in the weeds. It shows blobs or clumps of green/blue/yellow..presumably baitfish. I really like the thing a lot. Very detailed with great resolution. Only problem is that right now were in the dog days of summer and the fish'n has really slowed down .Also hunting season coming on me fast so I wont have much time to play with her and give full review till october. I'll give more results later.

Now is the perfect time for you to go out and put that new tool to use up to it full potential. Dog days mean deep, suspended fish and with what you got you can park right on top of rock pile, brush pile, hump, ledge, submerged tree/stump, etc.. whatever deep structure that hold fish. With a drop shot rig you can lower it down right to the fish. You'll be able to see your line, bait, sinker, and the fish taking your bait.

Hey, guys, I just got a new Eagle Fish elite 500c and was trying to locate some grass flats in about 14' of water. At that depth and with the water clarity I just couldn't quite make out the bottom. I too started getting the green reading on mine when the sand turned to the flats. Almost immediately the fish started showing up. (I used the fish symbols). Sure makes it a heck of a lot easier to run them down. My last new bottomfinder was a Humminbird I bought back in 1992. They have really gotten sophisticated since then!
