I thought I would share some pictures. I currently have two, and will update my progress. Originally, when I bought my 2010 Q5i SF boat the salesman and others suggested that I install the fish finder I had bought (Hummingbird 385ci) just in front of the windshield. So I did. Unfortunately, this has been there since day 3 of purchase and I haven't been happy with its location entirely. At night there is a glare from all the guage lights and it makes it really difficult to see through the windshield and see the color lcd screen. Also, it is difficult to mess with the fish finder while trolling do to the fact you have to reach over the windshield or have someone else do it. Like, changing the screen colors or brightness when it has turned to dark.
Luckily, I found a shop that will cut and install two front speakers and repair the holes I had orginally drilled for the original location of the fish finder for a reasonable price.
In an effort to not drill any more holes than needed I came across RAM Mounting Solutions and was determined to find the right products for the job.
The cup holder to the right of the steering wheel (only cup holder on drivers side) is not used much if any by me, and I could care less if someone else is driving if they have one. Besides the co-captains console has two already.
What I noticed is the cup holder has a drain hole directly in the center bottom. This is obviously used for cup sweat as no water ever splashs in on this area.
So I called up http://www.gomobilenow.com and they answered the phone quickly. After discussing with (I think Mark) we determined a mixture of components to make the mount.
This mounting solution will not force me to drill any holes in any fiberglass. Just the cup holder so it will be for a clean and good looking install.
I will post more pictures as I finish the project over the weekend.
PS: Cup holder is exactly 3" in depth (from inside bottom to the upperside of the curved lip.
