I have a Lowrance LCX 27c that drives me crazy, always changing reading, never to be trusted except for the GPS part. I tried all sorts of possible troubleshooting and fixes possible, the unit still does not perform as I would like to which is to be able to show fish and related. please don't give any suggestions how to make it work, I am just going to replace it.

I am not a fan of later (5 years and newer) Lowrance products.

What is a good brand, Raymarine, Furuno, Garmin , etc ?

I'm not a Lowrance fan either. They were standard equipment on both my boats and I don't like either one. I'm going to upgrade to a Garmin model. I like their products. Ive used their handhelds. I would use Raymarine, if I could afford it :).

Lowrance used to lead the industry in electronics for the average Joe, IMO. Now it appears the are playing catch up to everyone else. I dumped my fishfinder for a Humminbird and also have a handheld GPS unit by Lowrance that I'm sorry I bought. It's a year old and have had nothing but problems. They also didn't release any software til a year after releasing the unit. Wish I bought a Garmin from the beginning....

I have a Garmin color sounder/GPS and love it, the interface si really easy to work and you don't need to go to college to learn to use it, the GPS is super accurate, down to 3'-4' and the color fish finder is great.

It is a previous generation but i think the one I have is now the 530.

Nobody has ever been "fired" for buying a Furuno fish finder. ;)

Furuno is the gold standard of fish finders. Furuno is commercial grade equipment. A Furuno unit is a little more expensive, but you don't hear complaint from owners and it?s not unusual to get 10-15 years out of a unit.

You would be very happy with a FCV 620 with an Airmar P66 or P79 transducer. If you want more power and a bigger screen, the FCV 585 is the way to go
