Allow me to share a little story--to caution you.

This weekend was "fit out" time.

As I am a pretty organized guy; I went through every detail of the boat with a checklist. The last item on this list was the "butt plug" bilge bolt.

The plug was installed Saturday at NOON at the boat yard (in Red Bank, NJ). Following, I drove to the boat slip to prepare the dock lines..

I returned at 4pm with the wife, and was ready to push down the ramp.

JUST BEFORE hitting water; I was warned by a passer-by: "Wait! You forgot your butt plug!"

Do you believe it? Some other boater forgot their plug; and stole it from my boat. -Damn near sunk me.

Amazing, huh?

When I mentioned this to the marina guy; SO MUCH gets stolen: Cotter pins, Propellers, PFDs, Ropes/lines, Plugs.. You name it; idiot boaters forget and compensate via theft.

My advice to this anyone reading: Do a final check before pushing in. Even if you've thought of every detail; you may be the victim of a petty theft--because some other sh*t-for-brains was ill prepared.

Now, to find that b*stard, and get my plug back. I wonder which slip he's moored at? I think I have a stainless steel wrench handy in my Zodiac.. :)

Ken, Red Bank NJ

Re: Fit-out warning!

Yeah, there are some really ignorant(And cheap) people out there. I always check everything out at the parking area at the ramp before I put her in. It's a shame that these things happen, but that's just the way it is... Just have to be on your guard!!!
