Following on from previous post on what Snap Fittings to use.

The set of custom carpets that I bought for the boat came with a bag of snap fasteners, and also a matching number of clear plastic strips ... these have a punched hole that matches the Snap fastener ...

Are these to be fitted to back of carpet as some form of support, is the idea you pull the strip to get snap fitting apart ?

Never seen these on any previous boat carpets.

Pic attached ... each strip was attached to brown paper matching strip, assume they were stamped out of sheet this way.

The brown paper was attached to the plastic as a protector from scratches (in the large sheets) Throw them away. The plastic starts on the top of the carpet (under the snap cap), wraps around the binding, and finishes under the carpet (under the snap cup). It's there to take the tension off of the carpet when removing it, so the snap doesn't rip thru. You don't need them, just make sure you lube your snaps about every 6 months with a dab of Chapstick. They'll never stick that way.
