One of the snaps (male) used to hold the canvas to the hull came loose. What is the best way to re-affix it? Use epoxy in the hole and re-set the screw?

I am a big JB Weld guy, you should be able to fill and redrill the hole and not see the jb under the snap.

Thanks. If I filled the existing hole with JB weld and just reset the screw in the hole before it cured, would that work? There appear to be many types of JB Weld. Do you suggest a particular (Marine) type?

Re: fixing canvas snap

I use the regular jb, have used the quick set but don't think it is as good.

JB doesn't have any strength when wet so if you put the screw in with the jb you would have to hold it for 2-3 hours till it set up so I would fill and drill.

The secret to using that is to let it set up for 24 hours, if you mess with it it isn't nearly as strong.

Just like with a wood screw, you break off a piece (or two) of toothpick in the hole and turn the screw back in. With fiberglass I use a sliver of plastic wire tie and turn the screw back in. Works!

Tried epoxy and gorilla glue with limited success. JB Weld? Hmmmmm~

Sometimes the snaps screws that you get from Home Depot or where ever sometimes are a little bigger then the originals. Also you may be able to remove the screw and replace it with a slightly bigger one.
I would pass on the JB Weld if that's the route you have to go. That 5 minute epoxy (also at H/D) seem to work real well. Mix it up, spread it on a little cloth and stuff it in the hole. 5 to 10 minutes later it's as solid as a rock.
