So i have a 14' fiberglass boat and at the back where the motor sits is a little bit ruined, where the top piece of the boat rides over the bottom is falling apart, like the top just sits on the bottom but the bottom part is bowing out, how would i fix that? someone suggested getting a piece of aluminum and bending it into a U shape and placing it down on top of it and bolting it in, but where would i get the aluminum and how would i bend it, or any other suggestions?
any help would be great. and i don't know what kind of boat it is, its a power boat. :D

Welcome to iboats Dry Dock,

Do not use the "patch it" method.....lets take a look at the pictures and decide from there. Safety is very important around here and the transom of your boat isn't somthing to leave to chance.

Ayuh,... The transom is Rotten...
Pull it apart, 'n replace the plywood...

Your Plan will lead to a motor on the bottom of the lake, 'n the boat followin' it...

Okay can see a bit better, you haven't taken anything loose yet, right? The transom is just bowed out this far?

If so then a new transom is in your future. Good bit of detail involved in the replacement so I'd suggest reading other threads about the same problem and then post some more specfic questions when you get to that point.

Oh my goodness....well not stupid, just don't know the terms for boats. The transom is the large white part in the pictures, very rear end of the boat, or what the engine mounts too. It's made from plywood and fiberglass and most likely your plywood is no longer good. An aluminum cap over it will not help at all.

Remove the red part from the white part of the boat. We call it "popping the cap". Sounds worse than it is. That will give you full access to the wood. You need to do some reading. There are LOTS of threads on here detailing just what you need to do. Good luck.

Re: Fixing the boat Need Help

So i just one questions guys, i have been looking in other threads about fixing the transom and i think i got some kind of clue on what I'm doing but would i have to take the floor out to do it, i probably might have to cause the boat was siting out side with no cover for a while but i was wondering could the transom be like "fixed" or replaced with out taking the floor out?

Welcome to iBoats Mr. Green

Based on your earlier picture, I do not believe it would be practical for you to attempt to replace your transom without removing the top cap first. The design of your cap, with the large, one piece splashwell, makes it almost mandatory for the tap cap to be removed in order for you to gain access to the transom for proper removal and replacement.

Re: Fixing the boat Need Help

Mr Green, Do you have a friend or someone you know, who has experience with boats/fiberglass, that can give you some help with this project? From your posts, it seems like you don't have a lot of experience or knowledge about boats. We've all been there. Also, how are you fitted with tools and a place to work? Follow the advise of the guys on this forum and do lots of research before you jump in. I'm not trying to discourage you, I just want you to be aware of what you're getting into. This job is definetely doable, however, it's involved. If you go for it, we'll help any way we can.
