1984 Merc 150 XR-2 after replacing impeller with a new kit and the two t-stats, the poppet valve has been checked and deemed ok but, the motors pees strong and seems fine, but it is overheated with almost scalding water temps as it comes out. Motor overheating upon getting on plane and beginning a run.
I dont know what else to alter or change to correct this problem.
Any suggestions would be appreciated

Remove and test the thermostats. If they are NG replace them. Retest. If it still overheats, rebuild poppet valve.
