First let me say that I am a newbie to outboard repair, but pretty mechanically inclined.

I was having problems with throttle bog and took of the cover to discover that the wire connecting the main throttle linkage to the three carbs had 'popped' out of 2 of the three little black plastic connectors. After fiddling with it I got everything reconnected but actually had to twist some wire around a couple of things to get it to hold together.

I also noticed that a spare black plastic connector had fallen down into a hard-to-access area...it conjured up a picture of a mechanic doing a carb rebuild (which I know was done on this engine 5 or 6 years ago) and dropping one since they are a little tricky to handle.

My question is...it the mechanism really designed around what seems to be a pretty loose friction fit between the linkage and the black plastic connectors? Or did something else fall off and I just can't see it?

the connectors are groove to fit tight around the shaft of the linkage. you may just have worn out holders.
