flat spark plugs

i just posted about my mercury troubles and fail to mention that even though they looked halfway decent, i have never seen a flat plug like this. the center piece of metal was pretty clean, but the ring around it was dark. does this mean anything? just curious as to how they fire and if maybe they might indeed be fouled

As long as the center electrode has not burn back below the porcelain they should be alright.

Iv'e had flat plugs in all my Mercs and they seem fine. I like them cause there so easy to clean....lol And why i'm here, thanks Laddie for the info that you give us all here. Gallagher
