That 1965 90hp has a four barrel carburetor with four floats and there is a special tool used to set the float height. It is odd that the book you have doesn't address the issue. I still have my tool, but I'll bet they are hard to find now (??)

Re: Float Adjustment

I have the authentic factory Service manual. Just looked again and there is an illustration with a closed measurement. I'll try that. Does not say how to adjust it but I assume bending the pivot tang will do it. There is also a tang that limits the open position. That is the one I'm wondering about but maybe it does not matter. No mention of a tool for it.
Thanks!

The tool is part number 380546 - you really should use it if you can find one. Maybe F_R could make one for you at a good price, he's good at that.

Re: Float Adjustment

That is IT!
Thanks! I'll tear it down and set them accordingly. Looks like the tool is for measuring and bending the tang is the method for setting them. I found originally that they were all different and one was pretty far away from the others so I adjusted them (by eye) to all be the same and the engine ran pretty well without the high speed surging I was experiencing. There is no high speed mixture adjustment so it seems float adjustment and idle needle valves are the only adjustments possible. I'm starting to like the engine now...
