float height adjustment

Recently overhauled my carbs. I noticed when i took the carbs off the floats were hanging down past the high speed jet. so it definitely needed adjusting. I replaced the springs, needle and cleaned the carbs.

I now have my float height adjusted parallel to the carb body. and idle mixture and idle speed adjusted.

but at wide open throttle it doesn't seem to put out max rpm. it will go to 3k and then back down.

Is this a float height adjustment? It didn't do this before the carb overhaul and it ran at about 4500 rpms.

or is this a problem with the fuel water separator i installed maybe not getting enough fuel to the carbs fast enough. I used a 10micron sierra kit with the 3/8" fittings.

would putting an electric inline pump in between the fuel/water separator and motor fuel pump give it a boost

Re: float height adjustment

The floats do normally drop down past the high speed jet....if you hold the carburetor body right side up. To adjust the float height, you have to turn the carburetor body upside down. In this position, the float is resting against the needle valve holding it closed. Bend the tab until the float is parallel to the carburetor body. See diagram below.

Notice in the diagram, the high speed jet is oriented upwards indicating that the carburetor body is upside down.

Re: float height adjustment

thanks, i was reading the forums on how to adjust the float and the manual. but i guess i adjusted it wrong. I was adjusting it the other way around. imma go pull em and try that way.

that's makes a lot more sense to me now. I think that's my problem. I hope i didn't mess up the motor.

thanks thanks thanks

Re: float height adjustment

Hard to say if you've done any damage. Depends on how long it was run. If you're worried about it, do a compression check. Probably should do that anyways just to see what kind of shape your rings and cylinder walls are in.
