I have a Mercarb 1389-8490 Serial number 6360589.

The instructions that came with the rebuild kit, and almost everywhere on here I read are to set the drop @ 1 3/32 (29mm). And float to 9/16 (14mm) When I took this carb apart I figured that somone was in here and had to adjusted WAY off. Well come to find out the service manual says it sould be 1 3/4 (44.5mm) and 5/8 (15.8mm). I'm at a loss, and not sure who to believe.

I adjusted the drop to 29mm last week and while on the lake fuel was dripping in the engine while off, never had this problem before so pretty positive it was from adjusting the float too high.

Also the pump rod it say to adjust to 29mm, this at least is the same everywhere I look, but no way , even if the rod was completey straight could I get it to 29.

Thanks for any replies

I meant 27, on the float not 29. Been trying to edit but it won't let me.

Re: float level 3.0

Float drop isn't your problem, that just keeps the float off the bottom of the carb when it's empty, float level is what shuts the fuel off when the carb is full.

Thanks, that's the same info I had , I'll go by that and set the float to those numbers. I have 140 jets though, not 145 and like I said the rod will in no way hit 29mm.

Re: float level 3.0

Thanks for your time Don. I downloaded that manual off of here a while back, I just didn't have it with me here at work. For some reason when you post it I can't open it, but someone else changed your link on one of these posts I found and it opened right up.

I've had this boat for a couple years and am just learning all this stuff. I rebuilt the motor last month and the amount of info and little things that are different depending on where you find them is frustrating. I know it's not hard to believe that the instructions that come with the rebuild kit are wrong, but they don't even have the "toe" of the float labeled right. Sheeeesh
