This is a new to me motor and I suspect it has been setting up for a while so I decided to give the carbs a good cleaning, a decarb and change the impellar. This is also my first johnson. I must say it was easier to get the carbs off than the merc I had in the past. After cleaning the carbs out (they were pretty clean to begin with) I turn them upside down. The book said to use a gauage but I don't have one of those. There is a gap from the top of the float to the body casting of about 1/16". Is this about right, or should it be flush with the casting? Thanks!!!!

The gauge is mostly to set the drop when you turn the carb right side up.

The float should be very slightly less than perfectly parallel to the surface of the carburetor body.

Be sure to connect the float arm to the needle with the spring.
