flooding...omc 225 hp

1976 225 omc stern drive with rochester quadrajet carburater.. While running the engine will flood itself... Even when engine is shut down ...gas still seems to be coming out.. :confused: <br />This happens when going slow or at high speeds.<br />Please....any suggestions... by the way im new at this... (can ya tell).. Thanks

Sounds like you need a carby cleaning, Stuck float or a hole in float can cause this. Any other ideals mates?

is it coming from the tube/hose that comes from fuel pump and goes to flame arrester?

This may not apply to your situation, but my 2bbl Rochester did the same exact thing. I would shut it off and gas would just POUR down the venturi from the ring. Idle was very rough and 'mileage' was horrible. On the advice of wise sages on here, I found out this flimsy metal tab that controls the gas flow in the float bowl had bent down over the years, allowing full flow regardless of throttle position.<br /><br />I bent it back to an approximate normal position, and voila...no more problems. Just take off the bowl and look at the needle valve. Fully open?
