Doing restoration on a 1994 Starcraft Superfisherman....I got this boat already tore down...I did some reinforcement of the internal structure and now getting ready to pre-fit flooring. There are 4 main supports running the length of the hull...these supports are braced together at various points...from the outside supports there are thin flat 4 in pc of alum. which extend to the sides of the hull. They are light gauge material and look to be more to prevent exessive flexing of the outside hull...I can see holes where the flooring as been attached to these thin tabs. My two questions are... 1) what is the purpose of these tabs 2) should the flooring be attached to this material...just want to make sure on all above....hv been taking pics of restoration job and will post in future but presently !?@# computer not cooperating...lol

Welcome aboard.

The thin AL strips are nothing more than joiners for the floor plywood so you don't have a raised joint where two pieces of wood come together. So yes, the strip straddles the joint under the wood and the wood is attached to the strip. No structural value whatsoever, but it does help keeping the floor smooth.

I don't think I've ever seen anyone tie those plywood joiner strips to the hull. I'm not familiar w/ MarGlas but I'd guess its some sort of fiberglass product.

Pix would be great, esp before you MarGlas the tabs to the hull.

Of course a 94 Super Fisherman isn't typical of the SC tear downs posted here, perhaps SC made some changes.....

This is a brand new boat compared to what we usually see and work on.

Please post pics before gluing anything. The strips I was talking about don't attach to the hull.

Hiya Wetfoot..

Sounds like you were correct in your assessment about them being there for counter flexing or even for keeping the hull from wearing on the deck. But also..how does the ply get supported at the hull? Or does it just overhang from the stringer supports..?
