I bought a 1990 Sunbird SPL150 glass boat with what appears to be a plywood floor. The floor is a bit punky in the middle by the ski locker, and I would like to replace it. My problem is that I cannot see how it is attached to the hull. There is a seam along the sides where the carpet is wrapped. Has anyone fixed one of these?

Re: floor replacement / repair

mac:

I'm nearing the end of my first floor replacement. Pull the carpet and see what's underneath. A fair bit of mine came up by hand with some gentl pulling. If you cant pull it up by hand, carefully cut a small hole with a saber saw and use a flashlight to see whats under there. From there, I found the stringers, and using the saber saw carefully cut around the perimieter, leaving 4-5" of the old floor.

I got ALL of the information I needed right here, do some searching - you're bound to find what you need!

safetyman

Re: floor replacement / repair

Go to projects, look at my post "new pics if anyone is interested". You will see what you can expect to have to do. Read my other posts detailing my project, as well as the others who have chosen the pure hell of floor replacement as a fun thing to do. Take pics, ask questions, have fun. Good luck.....
