ok i just got a 1972 hurricane, forcaster 150 tri hull. i did know that the rear half of floor was bad. rotted. and top 8 " of transon is soft.because the splash well drain tube was missing . how is the best way to go about removing the very thin fiberglass over lay on top of wood. now i live in a apartment building .working out on the street.i have a 12 volt cordless drill. what kind of cutter do you think would work to cut through the thin glass floor? for the transom would using somthing like "rot doctor" be ok to use ? its got a evinrude 50 HP on it now. any one have any ideas. or a super low cost hull for sale i'm in illinois 60 mi SW of chicago

sounds to me like you have a project that a 12v cordless wont fix. you may need to find another good hull! once you get the floor up, you may have to rebuild the stringers then after that you'll need to pour foam. the list goes on & on, it sounds to me like you really dont have the tools or the place to do the work.

Yep Catfish that list does go on and on!! Resin and all the right cloth $234, Douglas fir stringers and braces $35, Marine plywood $287, paint and supplies all interlux $190.

$746 +300 for the boat, still not bad. After seats and carpeting add another $750+ and we still didn't get to the motor and out drive yet!

Blue book on the boat is $2,800, trailer 400 so I will still be in good shape. The boat is what I wanted so I'm happy and gives my wife something to yell at me about!

Get yourself this book, Runabout Renovation by Jim Anderson. I saw this book as info on another post and will give you some insight what you are getting into, also both Jason's have been a lot of help and have offered some great advice!

I read posts in this forum that were 2 years old, probably read about 500+ posts in here old and new, 3 books and just about everything I could find and I have complete confidence in what I'm doing now.

Good Luck!

get a couple hundred feet of weather extension cord and go to town.
i rebuilt a 351 in a 2nd story appt & had to carry the long block down stairs to the hoist. after i was done had to dismantle the hoist and carry it up to store so no one would steal. anything is possible with the rite determination.
have fun!!!!
