just bought a "new" 1991 westcoaster 15 1/2' wide body ,all welded aluminum boat. would like to install carpeted wood floors in it. any tips-pointers for this type of project ? do i need to use marine plywood ? how can i secure the floors in place, hopefully without using screws thru the hull. advice greatly appreciated...Thanks...Bill

Re: floors for new (to me) aluminum boat

I personally would use marine plywood either 1/2, 5/8, or 3/4 depending on the span. I would attempt to make a ledger or a frame around the outer edge where you want the floor and then try to screw it to any suport members that are available that do not go through the Hull. I would then glue and screw the plywood to the top of the frame. It is hard to say how much support would be needed without seeing the boat and knowing the span. What you want is to keep it as light as possible, but still remain stiff.

and i would never put the toilet mat in a boat. you know the one the women insist that goes around the toilet. that what carpet in a boat becomes.
